Passages of Death
Saturday, November 1, 2008 - December 3, 2008
Opening Reception - Saturday, November 1st
4 pm - Midnight
Visions Art Gallery, in collaboration with Art and Discord, is excited to
announce our annual Halloween Exhibition and Anniversary Celebration, “Passages
of Death.” This year our Exhibit will open on November 1 st All Saint’s
Day, the Day of the Dead, and the final day of Samhain. In celebration of
this special day, artists from across the nation shared their visions of the
dead and the afterlife, ghosts and ghouls, hauntings and the undead in all
their varied forms, celebrations and remembrances of those that have gone
before. Because mortality is such a fascinating concept, we received an incredible
variety
of work, which we are pleased to share with the public on behalf of these
artists. Everyone has a different idea about what happens after Death,
where our ancestors have gone, and where we will pass on to in the end. There
are legends of rebirth and reincarnation, the dead risen and walking, the
undead feeding on the living, and disembodied spirits returning to haunt those
they left behind. There are celebrations and mourning rituals surrounding
the dead on every continent across the globe and many of these ideas are represented
in this showcase.
We are pleased that we will be showing an array of work from across the globe,
in a variety of media and styles. This years exhibit will include works from
Chris Peters, Aunia Kahn, Lucy Jones of Ireland, Joseph Larkin, Marjorie Kaye,
Trey Crim, George Shaw, Fritz Limner, Jean Winslow, Jennifer Weigel, Doug
Murray, Mari Jae Benning, Ryan McJunkin, Jillian Greenberg, Eric Pigors, Sarah
Montani, Raynard Stevens, Mary Averill, Jamie Cross, Blackrock, Serena Kelly
Hart Crim, Christopher Wilke, Steve D’Asti, Jaesun Duggan, Alyson Marcell,
Phaeidra, R.M. Hanson, Chris Dingwell, Canman, Michelle AyersMoores, Scott
Holloway and Angela Cannistraro. Original works and prints will be for sale
during the exhibition.
A Costume Party will be a held for the opening reception at Visions Gallery
on November 1st from 4:00 pm to Midnight. This catered annual event features
the enchanting belly dancers Sabrina and Odalisque as well as Burlesque Performances
by SuperSpy, Goode Anatomy and Aquanet Jones. All are encouraged to attend
in Costume as we will once again have our traditional Costume Contest. Creativity
will be rewarded with Fantastic Prizes!
